How to Get an Egyptian Visa in 2027

Can I get it on arrival, or should I apply online?

The short answer

Get it upon arrival; it is the easiest way. Make sure you have your Visa or Mastercard.

Visa Upon Arrival

Egypt has streamlined its visa process, making it easier to enter the country. As of August 1, 2026, Egypt has introduced a digital entry system that provides travelers with an electronic visa featuring a QR code. Egypt currently allows citizens from 118 countries to obtain a visa upon arrival. Using your credit card, debit card, or cash, you can purchase your visa. Keep in mind that Discover Card never works in Egypt, and American Express is accepted in some places; your best option is to use a Visa or Mastercard

The current cost of the visa is $36 USD: $30 for the visa and a $6 issuing fee. As of January 1, 2027, the visa fee will increase to $15 USD.

Discover Credit Cards are not accepted anywhere in Egypt. Leave them home.

E-visa Ahead of Time

An e-visa is another route you can take when planning your trip to Egypt. These must be obtained 7 days prior to travel, and a list of countries requiring visas can be found here.  You can pay for your entry visa in advance using a credit or debit card. Upon approval, you will be sent a link to download your e-visa. Apply here for the official Egypt E-Visa Portal.

Passport Validity

Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months after your planned entry into Egypt; otherwise, you may be denied entry.

Exit Fee

As of August 2026, there is a 100EGP ($2 USD) exit fee.
